Getting to Virgin Gorda

While it is not effortless to get to Virgin Gorda, the quiet beaches and relaxed island living you will find when you arrive will make the trip worth your time.

By air: The best itinerary in terms of time and cost is to fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then fly Air Sunshine (http://www.airsunshine.com/SJU-VIJ.htm), which provides four daily scheduled flights on twin-engine, 10-passenger aircrafts to Virgin Gorda. For those looking for chartered flights, Island Birds (http://www.islandbirds.com/) provides flights for up to nine on twin-engine Piper aircraft.

By ferry: For less expense but additional travel time, those visiting Virgin Gorda can fly into Tortola and take a 30-minute ferry ride from either Beef Island (5 minute walk or $5 taxi ride from the  airport to the dock.) or the Road Town ferry dock in Tortola to Virgin Gorda’s Spanish Town (30 minute taxi ride from the airport). Speedy’s (http://www.bviferries.com/schedules.html) and Smith’s Ferry (http://www.bviferryservices.com/home.php) both provide service; and although you don’t need to make advanced reservations, it is best to call ahead to check the schedule. Spanish Town Ferry Dock is the closest to Sandcastle Villa about a seven minute drive. If you have rented a car, they will usually leave the car parked at the dock with the keys inside for you.

Transportation:

Rental cars: We recommend renting a car (http://www.bvitourism.com/rentals#vg) while on Virgin Gorda in order to fully enjoy your vacation. The island isn’t large, but a car of your own will make it effortless to see the sites and stock up the kitchen. The rental car supply is limited, so reserve your car ahead of time. You will need to bring your driver’s license and be consciousness about driving on the left. L&S Jeep Rental (http://www.landsjeeprental.com) and Mahogany Rentals (http://mahogany.nfshost.com/) will provide the vehicle at your point of arrival, while the other companies will ask you to go their offices when you arrive.

Taxis: It is possible to get around Virgin Gorda using taxis as long as you have patience and ask the rental agency to stock Sandcastle Villa’s kitchen. Taxis will also make themselves available for sightseeing tours of the island. Two companies we suggest are African Pride Taxi Service (284-495-6091) and Valley Taxi Association (284-495-5994).
